Wow, what a day. Filled with the emotion of a heated rivalry and weeks of taunts from the opposing coaches, players and fans the championship game finally arrived. The boys were care-free as any normal 10 year old should be, the coaches nervously prepared our team as was done in weeks past. Game time came. Alta won the toss and elected to receive and then the magic of a perfect season ensued.
The boys played so well. Everybody did their work and not one assignment was missed. The first quarter passed without a score. It didn't take long to pick apart Alta's defense. Our first drive of the second quarter went the entire distance of the field. Short runs, all powers through the end of the line with the occasion Quarterback keep, drove the ball behind our dominating offensive line and skilled backs and receivers. We drove down to the 6 inch line and one play later powered the ball in with a Quarter back sneak. 6-0. A power to the left side got the extra point and we held the lead of 7-0. That would be the only score until late in the fourth quarter.
In the second half both teams drove up and down the field. Midway through the 3rd quarter however the brilliant minds at work completely shut down the Hawks offense. I think they had more negative yards in the second half than they did positive yards in the first. They keyed in early on Wheelz knowing how fast he was and having scouted many of our games. Today was his most physical game of the season. It was great to see him power through defenders for short gains along with some medium sized. At the 2 minute mark in the 4th quarter Wheelz took a hand-off from Dougy our Quarter Back and 60 yards later after diving and dodging defenders, reading perfect blocks placed by his team mates, raced to the goal line with several Hawks 20 yards behind him for the game sealing touchdown. There was no way they could come back and beat us now. The championship was ours! We ended the game with our victory formation, taking a knee and running the clock out.
This has truly been a great season. Coaches Tony Barker, Jeremie Thorne and Mike Thorne are amazing guys with brilliant football minds. I learned so much from them this year as a coach and appreciate the time and effort they put in with the boys. ALL of the boys progressed so much this year, it was amazing to see where they were at the beginning of the year to where they ended up at seasons end. None of us wanted to leave the field yesterday after winning the championship. It was a sweet victory and the perfect end to the perfect season! As Coach Barker has said through-out the season "What do we do at station 6? DOMINATE!!!!" CONGRATULATIONS SILVERWOLVES, 10 and 0! UNDEFEATED!
